Are you struggling to see God’s goodness in 2020? You are not alone. We are in this together.

We don’t even need to address the obvious. Globally we are all walking through the valley of 2020 in one way or another. It’s inescapable. You can’t “not feel” 2020. But yet, we can see God’s goodness in His Word if we open our hearts.

You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drip with abundance. Psalms 65:12

You mean 2020 is crowned with goodness? Let’s back up a minute! You may be asking if I’ve read the news recently. Many of you have been hit especially hard. This year has put you in a tailspin of despondency and understandably so. Do these incredibly difficult times change the nature of God’s goodness and faithfulness, even if we can’t see it right now? Not one bit.

COVID-19 cannot stop God’s goodness.

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8

Maybe this year has been especially difficult financially. Job cuts, pay cuts, and furloughs are realities for many, yet His Word stands. This year, yes 2020, is still crowned with God’s goodness. Health scares, mandatory masks, and lockdowns are our new realities, yet His Word stands.

We could keep going on with what 2020 has thrown our way. It has been unlike any in my lifetime and possibly yours too. Can this year stop God from being faithful? Will His goodness withstand this year?

He tells us He crowns the year with goodness. Maybe we have to look deeper to see Him working, but He is moving on behalf of those who have invited Him into their lives. His reliability is unchanging regardless of what is going on around us, or our ability to understand our situation

For since the beginning of the world men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, nor has the eye seen any God besides You, who acts for the one who waits for Him. Isaiah 64:4

Can our paths really “drip with abundance” in 2020?

Maybe His abundance is not what you had in mind when you think of abundance. Hold fast to Him. Don’t believe the lie that this isn’t the year that we will see crowned with God’s goodness or our paths dripping with abundance.

Can COVID-19 stop God’s faithfulness? Not one bit. Will we look back one day and see good?  Yes!

2020 has in no means been easy or perfect for our family. However, we have been very grateful to have stayed healthy. Jason has been able to work from home and we have recouped the time he would normally commute. We’ve explored many places in our beautiful state where we can walk in God’s creation while social distancing. Who couldn’t love a beautiful view of God’s vast creation on a spectacular scenic drive? In addition to these, we’ve had numerous opportunities to go deeper with our children as we navigate this season together.

Additionally, I could list the things that have been hard, but this is about seeing God’s goodness even when times are challenging. Were there adjustments and very hard times emotionally? You bet. It especially isn’t easy to watch our children grapple with this new normal. I believe we are only able to see a small bit of the good He is doing, and we trust Him with the rest. I believe some of that good is that many are thinking of eternity right now that might not otherwise. Many are watching church online and exploring their faith for the first time in a long time. I praise God for that and realize we were born for this time. Yes, we were born for 2020.

Ask God to show you His goodness in 2020. He can handle your questions. Wait for Him to reveal His work in your life this year. Look deeply and sit quietly before Him. Start the conversation with your friends and family and ask them how they have seen God’s goodness and abundance this year.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
